Why is it that I always find myself stuck in these positions? I'm in these class right now called Directing in the Schools, and the Ethics of Teaching. Summer classes here over at the university. Idea is people will be able to complete a 4 month story in the span of 3 weeks. good idea if your interested in finishing off a class in a really short time. Bad thing because you have a lot of assignments and projects due in a real short time.
Kinda like passing a gall stone. It's painful as hell, feels like an eternity, but it's short and one hell of a relief when it's passed. So I'm taking two of these classes. Stupid me. The Ethics class teaches us things like don't sleep with your students if you don't want to go to jail and become someone's girlfriend. Or at least if you're going to sleep with them, don't get caught.
Directing in schools is like a three week camp on learning some basic directing techniques. Such things like, if you have sex with your actors don't get caught or the men in your class might beat you up, or try to sleep with you. Interesting, similarities in my classes. Hmmmmmm...It's almost as if there's a universal sort of message that someone's trying to tell me. Don't get caught. So this Ethics class I'm in we have papers and presentations that we have to do in order to pass.
Eight papers and one presentation in 3 weeks. That's allright. nothing big. But this directing class that I'm in. We're working to doing 17 plays for our final performance. Allright so far.
Here's the thing. Out of the class there were only 4 of us hanging and focusing lights. If there are any non theatre people reading this it means that we spent 4 hours this evening, crawling around on a very hot grid doing the bitchwork that noone else wanted to do. For what? All in the hopes that when we do our final performances on the 22nd they won't look like complete pieces of shit. Pisses me off.
So here I am 2:00 am just finished my presentation put up a post, and get ready to do it all again. I must be nuts.
