I saw Branagh's new movie last night: Rabbit Proof Fence. I have to say his performance was phenomenal as usual. The rest of the movie was also very powerful. I thought it was moving and that the director did a very good job of creating symbols of power and conveying emotion without words.
There were parts were a word wouldn't be uttered for several minutes on end, and these were some of the most emotional moments. I was especially impressed by the aboriginal actor who played the tracker, Moodoo. He said only one brief phrase that quite frankly I didn't understand what he said, but he carried himself with such a presence. It was like he was stone cold but you could see deep down that he had inner conflict. His air of seriousness was just amplified by his stone cold facial expression (I say expression because it rarely changed). The girls who played the runaways were very good considering it was their first time acting. The one thing that got me was how they would always run into these random people in the desert that gave them food and showed them directions.
But hey, it's a true story. Really makes you think the kind of cruelty that went on in the world and hardly anyone knows about it. We had to see this movie at Canada Square which is an old skool theatre. No stadium seating, no big comfy chairs, small ass theatre and screen. But it was coo'. Cause it made me feel smarter seeing an intellectual film. HA! That's all.
