David, I don't pretend to have anything figured out nor do I have the expectation that I ever will, but I do relate a little to what you are saying.
I think many house church's started because of dissatisfaction with the institutional church only to start to form their own institution and subculture.
I agree that belonging is very important but my question would be belonging to what? I think if we just create a space to belong with no substance to it two things will happen, people will either make their own meaning which can lead to fragmentation instead of community, or they will become disenchanted and leave. Whatever type of ministry you start should have a missional focus that is doable and understandable and something everyone is committed to beyond just "let's get together. " You may have already thought of this I know it may sound academic, but I have seen many movements start without any purpose beyond, "church sucks.
" So many new churches make the mistake of changing the form without addressing the substance so it just becomes the same old church with cooler music and technology stuff. That only lasts so long. What is the purpose of your community David? Is it outreach by bringing people to the community? Where do you hope it goes?
