Okay, I'm going to attempt to relate my day yesterday in reverse order, like some hipster movie, the name of which I can't remember right now. 10:30 pm - E looks at me sprawled out on the couch, staring at the crappy local news. "You look tired. You should to bed. " 9:15 pm - Jesus Christ, I think to myself. This line looked shorter, but some idiot is making the clerk search for a coupon for her.
15 people who got in the other line after me are already in their cars on the way home. Picking the right checkout line is always a bit of a crap-shoot. I could switch lines now, but I'm determined to stay here. I made my choice. I'm sticking with it. 9:00 pm - "Did you remember the medicine?
" E asks. No, I didn't. At least I remembered to drop off the prescription earlier. I turn on my heel, put on my shoes and walk right back to the car. By this time I've accepted that the day is a loss. It barely phases me to have to abandon my plans of relaxing the couch to do one more thing.
8:15 pm - [open K's fridge] Man! No beer. Boy, that just just takes the fucking cake doesn't it? 8:05 pm - I know K will have some beer for me. I wasted all my time and now the liquor store is closed. I don't have any cash, or I'd just head to the urlLink Turf and have a beer.
That's all I want. Just one beer. K usually has some urlLink James Page in the fridge. I need to borrow some camping gear. [on cell phone] "K, you going to be around for awhile? Okay, I'll be right over.
" 8:04 pm - [cell phone (leaving mesage)] "Hey Shua, I just got ahold of Truck. I guess...we're not practicing tonight. I guess I knew that at some point, but I'd forgotten it until just a minute ago. I guess I won't really see you guys for a couple of weeks now. Say 'hi' to J for me. Okay, see you later.
" 8:03 pm - [opening car door] Where the fuck is everyone? Oooooohhhhh shit! Today's J's fun-day. Shit, I bet they're at Star Wars right now. So...we're...not having practice tonight? What time is it?
Jeezuz-fucking-Chrrrist! The liquor stores are even closed! How much money do I have? $2 won't buy a beer at the urlLink Turf . [head on the steering wheel. ] 7:58 pm - [pull into the parking lot at high-speed] I bet he'll call just as soon as I get out of the car.
I'll just have to drive all the way back and get him. Well, I might as well check. Maybe he's inside. His phone never works inside. Nope. Door's locked.
[now suppressing the urge to shout "Fuck" at the top of my lungs, since there are other rockers in the hallway] Do I have my key for the dead-bolt? Nope. Okay then, back out to the car. 7:40 pm - [cell phone(leaving message)] "Hey Shua," suppressing the urge to shout into the phone as I'm blinded by the setting sun. I pull the shade down as hard as I can. The garage door opener goes flying onto the dash.
"Umm, I've been waiting now for about 40 minutes. I can't find Mav. I can't find Truck. I'll wait a little longer, but I don't know. I'm going to take off soon, so give me a call or ANSWER YOUR DAMN PHONE! " I'm no longer able to suppress the urge the shout.
At least it sounded like I might have been joking. He's probably just taking a damn nap! 7:00 pm - [cell phone (leaving message)] "Hey Shua, I'm here. " I park the car, get out ring Shua's number. Wait. Someone walks into his building with a sixer of Summit.
"Boy, that looks good," I think to myself. I wonder where Shua is. I ring again. Wait some more. Call again. No answer.
I go back to the car. Call again. Call again. Wait 10 minutes. Call again. Call Mav.
Call Truck. "He's in the New Brighton office. I can try to transfer you. " I'm not so sure that will work. "Sure," I say. Nope.
It didn't work. I'm disconnected. 6:50 pm - [cell phone (leaving message)] "Hey Shua, I'm on my way to your place. I just stopped by work to get some free coffee. I know it's a little early, but I was actually hoping you had some beer. I'd really like a beer.
Maybe we could just hang out for a while and have a beer. Or we could just go to the space early. So, I'll see you in about 10 minutes. " 5:45 pm - "You can just go right after dinner. We don't care," says E. "Awesome," I think. 4:15 pm - "Well," pointing to Z, "she definitely has an ear infection.
We'll prescribe some Augmentin," the doctor tells us. "We'll try to call you before five if she," pointing to C, "has strep. " E and I nod. 9:01 am - "It's okay C, we're going straight home. " Damn, no time to pick up coffee. Oh well.
Well, at least I have practice tonight. I just have to make it until 7 or so. 9:00 am - "Dad, I don't feel good. I want to go home and take a nap," says C from the back seat. A voluntary nap is a very bad sign. She must really be sick.
"Okay," I reply. C vomits. 8:45 am - "You should just take them to Medx and get them checked out since we're going out of town," says E as I drop her at work. "Okay," I reply. 6:32 am - No coffee. Nope, not anywhere.
Boy, that sucks. Well, I'll just get some later this morning. 6:30 am - Z's up. E hits me. It's my turn to get up early with the girls. Okay.
I'm up.
