We began shooting the main dialogue tonight. The dialogue is very important because it will make up the majority of the movie. I am told that the overall time on the dialogue should be about 12 to 15 minutes. Before starting the dialogue, we got a few shots of Daren.
The most difficult of the night was him on his knees praying. David wanted shots rotating around him. In order to do this, we tried using Chris home-made steadycam. It seemed to work alright, but we had trouble getting shots around Daren because of the small room. It became difficult to get the shots without seeing one of the lights or a reflection off of the TV or something. Well see how it works in post. The biggest problem we encountered tonight was when we began shooting Thomas dialogue.
After setting up the lights and the camera, we noticed that there was a terrible reflection on Thomas glasses. We tried to move the lights to every possible location, but we had no luck eliminating the reflections. He had to wear the glasses for two reasons: it fit his character, and we had already shot some scenes with him wearing glasses. Finally, we decided to just remove the lenses, hoping that no one would be able to notice that they were gone. I think that this will actually work out very well. The other main concern of the night was with lighting. I tried to eliminate as many shadows from the shot as possible without making things worse. I dont think I did a very good job. This is my first experience with lighting and I feel clueless. Shadows are my biggest concern with lighting.
Im pretty sure that I can fix any color or brightness problems in post-production. Once again we went over schedule for the night. I dont think we finished until after 1:00am. Hopefully the guys will learn their lines a little better by tomorrow night so that we can get through the script a little faster and get the shots for each character.
