Direction Unknown I went to bed late last night and then I started reading "The Hobbit" after I got into bed. After I finished Chapter 1, I tried to get to sleep. I had a lot of trouble sleeping and wound up in bed until 1pm this afternoon, way later than I would've liked. I watched TV a bit ("Celebrity Poker"), ate lunch, and played around on the PC all afternoon. I talked to Mom sometime around 3:30pm, when it looked like a storm was imminent, and she said she could leave a little early to take me in to my Arbys interview at 5:15pm.
I got showered, got ready to go, and waited for her to get here. A few minutes after she got home, we left for Arbys. When I arrived, I asked the girl at the counter if I could see tghe manager, she left and said he wasn't there. I saw the manager I interviewed with on Friday, Don, out back when we pulled in so I asked to speak to him. She went back and said he wasn't there. She was no help whatsoever and couldn't of cared less. I went out back myself and asked Don when the other guy was due in. He said he was due in at any moment and that I should wait for him. Ten minutes later, still no manager. Don came out again and said he'd call the guy I was waiting on, he did that, came back, and said it'd be another 15-20 minutes.
I said I'd wait. All the while I sat there I was thinking about how much I really didn't want to work there, trying to think up ways to get out of it. I realized that since I got my guitar money refunded, I was ok (moneywise) for another couple of weeks. I also realized that I'd only have another $400-something to pay on my bank loan and I could probably come up with that on my own, selling on eBay or at the flea market or whatever.
Still, I waited patiently for the manager to arrive so I could be employed again. I noticed while I waited, that none of the employees smiled, not once in the whole time I worked there. It really didn't look like a happy, enjoyable place to work. I finally had enough waiting, got up and told the assistant manager at the counter that I had to go, to which she replied (in broken english) that the manager I was waiting for was gone for the day anyway.
That was it for me. I was out of there, having decided I no longer wanted to work there. I felt a little bit of freedom and pride in having left there, but I also felt a lot of doubt and uncertainty about leaving as well. From there Mom took me to Costco where I tried to apply, but they only accept applications on Tuesday and Thursday, so no luck there. I looked over the want ads while we drove towards home. I saw a couple things nearby I'll need to check out.
We wound up at Denny's, where we had dinner. I had their turkey sandwich, which is not something I'd ordinarily order. I kept second-guessing myself about the Arbys job all through dinner. It's a quick job, but I really think taking it would do me more harm than good in the long run. Still, I need money now . Like I said before, it's a real dilemma for me. When we got home, I looked at the phone messages and Arbys had not called. I'm thinking that either the manager never did come in or else he did and said "screw him" when told I left. I'm pretty sure it's the former, and I think I can still have the job if I want it. I just hope they don't contact me in a moment of weakness or I just might take the job after all. Pathetic, huh? After we got home and got settled in, we ordered another movie from Movies On Demand, "Welcome To Mooseport", which was a huge piece of shit. I didn't laugh even once during the entire movie! It was awful, horrendous! What were they thinking?
I don't know who I hate more, the guy who wrote this steaming-pile-of-shit or Ray Romano for having betrayed comedy itself by taking the role. Ugh! Do yourself a favor and stay as far away from this movie as you can, unless you enjoy wasting your life on crap. I'll be heading to bed within the hour. I'm going to read some more, and hopefully, I'll get to sleep at a decent hour tonight. I need to start getting up early again so I can start looking for a good job.
