urlLink Monday Mission 1. What in your life used to be fun, but eventually just became a chore that you didn't enjoy? Right now? Christmas. It'd probably more enjoyable if I had a job and steady income, but all of the money I have due in comes from eBay auctions and I am waiting on a lot of people to make good on their purchases so I'll have some Christmas cash, but it looks like some of them aren't going to pay up (at least not before Christmas), which really fucks up my Christmas plans.
Ugh! And then there's my sister, who had money to buy a DVD player and some DVDs a couple of weeks ago, but is talking now about how they barely have any money for presents for the kids (which is her way of saying "you're not getting anything this year either"). It's just a huge fucking hassle. 2. This weekend, US Troops captured Saddam Hussein and now have him in custody. How did you feel when you heard the news? Did it change your mind about the War in Iraq? Did it change your opinion of President Bush? I thought it was great that he's been captured; now the Iraqis can put aside any fears of him re-gaining control after we leave there. I still think the war was unjustified and handled horribly by the Bush administration. As soon as I heard he'd been captured, I started worrying that Americans will celebrate his capture and forget that we were lied to about why we were going there, that Bush alienated us from former allies with his arrogant foreign policy, that his policy of pre-emption is wrong and illegal, and that our soldiers continue to die there almost every day.
3. What do you think, should US Troops have taken Saddam alive or just killed him when they found him? What would be the pros and cons of either? They should not have killed him immediately, no. That would be cold-blooded murder since he was unarmed and did not resist.
Having him alive allows Iraqis to see him, and believe that he truly has been captured, and allowing them to try him will give them some closure to his bloody reign and a sense of freedom. It's also better for Bush's approval ratings to have him contained. I'm worried by that a bit. I mean, if we manage to find Bin Laden before the next election, I think Bush stands to be re-elected. People forget too easily. 4. What kind of things at Christmas time just scream "tacky" and "White Trash" when you seem them?
The "Jesus Is The Reason For The Season" bumper stickers. 5. Suppose you had a dear friend who calls you in tears because her boyfriend had just left her. They'd been together for nearly 5 years, and one day he announces to her that he is leaving because she had gained too much weight. They were in love, or so she thought, and then out of the blue, he bails and blames it on her weight. What would you say to her about this man? If you love someone, you look past the other person's faults, you don't abandon the person because of them.
It sounds like she's the only one that's really in love. 6. Suppose this same friend of yours still thinks she and her ex have a future. She says that she wants another chance, that if he will make some changes, she will to. She really does love him, and assures you that he loves her, even though he wants to "take a break and see other people, but if we were meant to be together we will be.
" There is even a hint of marriage in their future if they get back together. What advice would you give her? Pick up the pieces of your heart and move on. 7. Have you ever had to tell a lie to get out of a date or when you were breaking up with someone? What did you tell them and how did they take it? Did they ever find out the truth? I don't know that I ever lied to get out of a date (a boy/girl date, that is) and I've never broken up with anyone. BONUS: Where are you, Christmas? Right around the corner.
