Lately I've Been... Listening to: My new Wilco CD ("A Ghost Is Born"), which I played about 3 times yesterday... great album! I also listened to some Miles Davis yesterday (my new box set) and some Alabama tonight. Yes, I said Alabama. Watching on TV: Same as usual: "Fear Factor", "Celebrity Poker", "World Poker Tour", "The World Series Of Poker", "People's Court", "Judge Mathis", "Everybody Loves Raymond", "King Of Queens", and "The Daily Show", among others.
No surprises. Reading: I finished Tim Allen's "I'm Not Really Here", but didn't like it near as much as his first book "Don't Stand Too Close To A Naked Man", which was a very funny read. This one, though very interesting and funny in parts, is just too contrived. He uses some literary devices that I found to be very amateurish.
I also finished reading Pamela Des Barres' book, "I'm With The Band", and I have problems with it as well. I thought her tale (the life story of a groupie), for the most part, to be pretty sad and pathetic, while she seems to think herself some sort of feminist icon because she was doing what she wanted to do with her life... which was be to be used and abused by rock stars!
To me, she seems like a very mixed up, confused person, full of extreme contradictions and over emotional. I'm glad she made it through okay though, because she does seem like a nice person. I started reading Elmore Leonard's "Freaky Deaky" last night. Pretty good so far. Playing Still playing a lot of "Age Of Empires 2". Downloading: Nothing as of late. Jamming: I haven't picked up my electric guitar since the last gig (exactly two weeks ago). I have goofed around on my acoustic here and there, but I should be playing a lot more than I am. I may be jamming tomorrow with Santana's band and I'm supposed to do some recording on Wednesday night at Jimmy's. Working: I was waiting to hear back about that school job and then it rained a lot and then the A/C went out, so I haven't applied anywhere this week.
I need to get back on it come Monday. Buying: I won two cassette box sets on eBay (The Police & Steely Dan), both still sealed, for less than $16 in total (they'd sell in stores for about 4x that). Also, Mom and I hit a couple more thrift stores today and I found some books and tapes... don't I always?
I got two hardcovers (Kurt Vonnegut "Hocus Pocus" and Oscar Wilde "The Picture Of Dorian Gray And Other Stories") and two paperbacks/softcovers (James Fenimore Cooper "The Last Of The Mohicans" and Ben Stiller/Janeane Garofalo "Feel This Book") and a handful of cassette tapes, most of which weren't really my style, but for $0.25 each, I thought they were worth picking up anyway. I got: Alabama "Mountain Music" & "The Very Best Of Alabama" (a 2-tape set), Arrested Developement "3 Years, 5 Months, & 2 Days In The Life Of...", The Carpenters "The Singles 1969-1973", The Grass Roots "16 Great Hits", Tommy James & The Shondells "The Best Of", Meat Loaf "Bat Out Of Hell", Robert Palmer "Addictions Volume 2", and U2 "Rattle And Hum". I already have 3 of them (Arrested Developement, Meat Loaf, and U2) but I thought they might be in better shape than the ones I have, and for a quarter, they'd be worth picking up anyway.
Selling: Still nothing. I really need to get on it soon. Eating: I've been eating smaller portions, but I'm still eating the wrong kinds of foods. I also started drinking soda again this month. I need to cut that off again too. I drank very little soda the first six months of this year. Feeling: Mentally, I'm jonesing to get on with things. I have a lot of possibilities, but everything is hinging on me finding a good job. I'm pretty stressed. Physically, my right foot is still sore and it is also doing that weird muscle thing again. It's like a Charlie Horse in the foot and it hurts like hell. I'm fine otherwise. Planning: My main plan right now is to wait for a good job, no more taking shit jobs just because they're easy to get.
My resume sucks because of that. After I get a good job, I plan on getting a driver's license and some insurance because I have a car sitting in the driveway now (Mom gave me her old car) and I need to get my ass behind the wheel. After that, I can start working on getting my own band going and maybe even find a girlfriend.
