Lately, I've been... Listening to : I put on my George Carlin "Classic Gold" CD (disc 1) and fell asleep to it a couple times the past few days. My ears are still too inflamed to listen to music. Watching on TV : I haven't really been watching much of anything, or at least paying attention to much of anything, mostly sitting in front of the PC or else in bed.
I did watch "Saturday Night Live" this weekend (great show...Dan Aykroyd hosted for the 1st time ever), I re-watched my favorite episode of NOVA (where they build two medieval trebuchets), and I watched a movie, "The Last Tango In Paris", which was nowhere near as good as I've heard critics make it out to be. In fact, I got bored halfway through it and was ready to change it. Marlon Brando was just plain weird in it, and the dialogue was just dreadful. Maybe that's the way people talk to each other and relate to each other in France, I don't know, but most of it made little sense to me. Also, some of Brando's improvisations, besides being weird, seemed awfully stupid, especially the part about his father making him milk cows before a date, getting cow shit on his shoes, this suppoosedly being the reason he's such a jerk in the film. Still, Brando brought a lot to his character, while the character of his lover, Jeanne, was left quite underdeveloped. There were some worthwhile moments in the film though, some great acting by Brando (when he speaks to his dead wife), but overall, I think the movie was highly overrated and fairly boring.
I also tried watching "Scream, Blacula, Scream" again, but I lost interest and near the end, during the movie's climax, I tuned out altogether. Downloading : I downloaded a few Johnny Winter songs this morning. I started writing a song on guitar last night and I came up with another part to it but I felt it was too similar to a Johnny Winter song, "Mean Town Blues", from Woodstock. I downloaded it and compared it and the part is pretty similar, but is used in a different way. I don't know if I should change it or not, after all, with blues, almost everything is borrowed from someone else.
I listened to tow versions of his song, studio and live, and liked them so much I downloaded a few more to check out. I don't think I've ever had any of his albums, but I may have had a cassette of his back in the '80's. I should get some of his CDs. Reading : I haven't started anything new yet. I've been struggling to get sleep lately (from my sore head/ears), and I didn't want to waste any "bed time" reading. Jamming : As I mentioned, I started wring a blues song yesterday, it's in open tuning (G) and some of it is with a slide, some not.
I also sat for an hour the other night and went through all of my old songs and played many again for the first time in years. Some of my stuff isn't bad, usually the music and melodies are great, but the lyrics are always too weak, too simple and bland. I may throw a couple of them in at the next band practice, if there is one. I still havent' talked to JP about quitting yet. I'm still undecided. I think what I may do is just keep my songs to myself until I've finished them, not letting him re-write or add anything, that way, if I break away, I will still have my own material. I can accept playing in his backup band for now, but I have trouble with him putting his name on my songs, especially in cases where I'm not happy with what he's added.
He wants to get the new one copyrighted already and I'm not gung-ho on that idea at all. I need to call him to let him know that I can't play this week either. My ears haven't opened up yet, still inflamed and painful, and the amplifiers would absolutely kill me, like daggers in my ears. I hope to be ready next week though. Working : As if. Because of all the delays, I'm thinking that, as soon as I'm well, I will go to Olsten Staffing, a temp service I've worked for before, and work as a temp for a bit, to get some money in quickly. Buying : I have no job, no extra money, a ton of bills, and people I owe money too...I can't afford to buy anything. However... me being the impulsive shithead that I am, I bid on and won Doyle Bramhall II's out-of-print debut CD, still sealed, for $19.50 (includes shipping).
I've seen it sell for twice what I paid for it. Luckily, payment is due in 30 days, so that gives me time if I need it. Eating : My diet for the last 5 or 6 days has consisted soley of: McDonald's Cheeseburgers, biscuits (with apple butter), chicken noodle soup, and I've also been drinking a lot of hot tea, water, and Gatorade. Feeling : Like life has kicked me in the sphincter yet again. Planning : I'm planning on getting well. All other plans are on hold until then.
