I am too self-centered. I don't mean to be, but it's difficult, you know? This is my life, after all. Hell, this is my blog, too. So I'm walking home tonight and I'm approached by two gentlemen, one of whom claims to be deaf, and asked to fork over some dough so they can buy some grub. The deaf guy hands me a note, which, in the spirit of urlLink Homer Simpson , I will faithfully reproduce: "Hello! Can you help me? I am get [sic] and I mumble mumble somethingerother $2 for booze or chips or something, Jesus, do I have to beg would be so happy because my mother's dying in a ditch somewhere on the road to Winnipeg at last.
God bless you. " Maybe I'm just too tight with my cash; I mean, the thought of me telling them that I was penniless while I greedily clutched a roll of twenties the size of a pork roast haunted me all the way home. But that's part of the deal with money, I guess. I'd have had less of an issue if I knew where the money was going, and why they really needed the money. urlLink The Homeless Guy wrote once that you should never give people money, because it just goes to their addictions, whether it's alcohol, drugs, gambling, eating, breathing, or whatever. Some people will ask you for money so they can buy food, and they're telling the truth -- but it's only because they've spent their food money on cigarettes, or prostitutes, or urlLink bum fights , or kitschy Star Wars memorabilia.
If I ever become a bum -- a prospect that's looking more and more likely as the days progress -- I'm going to be sure to produce an annual report at year end. That way, when people ask me what I'm planning on spending their money on, I can produced documentation showing how my annual expenses break down.
"I see you went over budget in soft drinks and library fines, but you're under budget in clothing and sexual solicitations -- and your administrative overhead is practically nothing! You certainly know how to live like a bum -- here's a urlLink finsky ! " Other bums would quickly have to do the same or risk being shut out by the discriminating financial contributor. Of course, I doubt their annual spending will be as diverse as mine, so their budgeting will be much easier.
