My mom and sister want me to go on this South Beach diet with them (they haven't started yet, but figure that it would be hard for them to be on it and not me). Supposedly my aunt lost 15 lbs in 3 weeks and my uncle lost 10. I'm pretty hesitant about it though. From what I understand of it, for the first two weeks you basically cut out everything except very select meats, vegetables, cheese and some other crap. Thats when the major weight loss happens. After the two weeks, you start adding carbs, which I guess turns it into practically the same as the Atkins diet, all carbs.
From then on, if you maintain you should lose 1-2 lbs a week. First of all, from what I gather, most of the weight loss during the first 2 weeks is mostly water loss. From then on, its a whole lot of carbs and not much else, which doesn't seem healthy. Plus, if at any point you stop seeing results, apparently you're supposed to repeat the first two week crash diet. Seems sketchy to me. Of course, when I voice my objections, they figure its just because I don't want to curb my beer drinking, not that I could possibly think it is unhealthy.
Plus, while there's no question that I could stand to get in shape and drop some pounds, for whatever reason I'm not all that motivated to do anything about it. Maybe its because I'm lazy, or maybe I'm set in my routines or maybe its because I've accepted that I am the way I am. As they say, "Its better to burn out than to fade away".
