Movie Review - Savvy? Went to catch this highly- proclaimed- busted- over-
300- million- movie- at- the- US-
box- office- over- the- weekend movie on Friday. I must say,
that if I wasn't threatened and coerced into watching this, I would never have gone to watch it, for the following reasons: 1) I think Orlando Bloom looks 'hello' lots better as a blonde with long hair and pointy ears and with archery skills better than robin hood any knighty ol' day; 2)
The whole show's trailer just reeked like a rip- off of Lord of the Rings, for the mere fact of a key character and the plot which involved war with the undead; and 3) There didn't seem like a great pulling reason to just watch it - sure,
the plot is the kind of adventure I like, but there's always kazaa. Anyway, despite all misgivings , I watched the show. And didn't regret it one bit.
Why. 1) Johnny Depp - from Edward Scissorhands to Donny Brasco to Don Juan Demarco to Chocolat, this actor has never dominated the entertainment news for any bad- boy actions or ego attitude.
In fact, the roles he chooses to undertake are few and far between, and are often roles that emphasize on deep character- building. This boy is a serious actor, I tell you.
No typical type- casting on him - he can do romance to mafia to poor- boy and comedy. As Captain Jack Sparrow of the Black Pearl, his role is mainly comical and yet remains crucial to the whole plot.
With eyes kohl- lined more heavily than golden retrievers, a beheft appearance that onscreen looks as if he really smells and looks as disgusting as he does and walking and talking with the swagger and drawl, he's just my kind of pirate and gypsy. Bloke has an upcoming role in Desperado II - Once upon a Time in Mexico,
which reunites Antonio Banderas and Salma 'hot' Hayek. Am lookin' so forward to that one. 2) Great swordfighting and swashbuckling actions. As far as pirates and buckaneers go, this show packs great swordfights and bucaneering canon action worth the price of admission alone.
 3) Amazing CGI effects. Especially proven in the showdown scene where the cursed pirates and the good guys are fighting in a cave with a roof that streams the moonlight in. Watch out for how the figures change into skeletons and humans as they weave in and out of the moonlight. 4) Jack Davenport,
Keira Knightley and Jonathan Pryce. It didn't click to me that Jack Davenport was the guy I massively had a crush on after watching The Talented Mr. Ripley. ( i watched the show twice coz of that) And,
to say most unabashingly, I like the guy all over again. It must be his kind, gentle, softspoken characters. Keira is only 18 and looks hell great,
and I'm almost envious of that. But she did not to bad in the show and it's a mighty lot different from her stint in Bend It Like Beckham. Jonathan Pryce; great actor, no worries there. Go catch the show.
 " Nuff Said.
