Damn it's cold out today. It's the kind of day that puts scientists to shame for talking about "Global warming" and "The green house effect. " I would like you to explain this one, you brainiacs. There's nothing interesting online today either, but somehow I keep myself busy.
I want to go home and watch Donnie Darko one more time so I can fully understand it, or at least form my own opinions about what it's about, regardless if they're correct. I was going to do a mini review of 8 Mile, but that movie pales in comparison to the depth of Donnie Darko and its Sundance Film Festival artsyness.
I guess I could still do it though, for those who care. 8 Mile - **SPOILER ALERT** DONT READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE AND DON'T WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS IN IT. After all the good things I heard about this movie, I didn't expect much. I spent the first ten minutes thinking it had been overhyped too much by Zac and my sister for me to enjoy it, but I eventually got into it. I liked the movie a lot immediately after it ended. I liked how it built up from the slow moving start to the excellent ending.
Overall the movie was pretty good, especially the last free style battle scene, that was really the highlight of the film. After (and during) it I was on my feet because I was so excited about it. The things he says will make you go "yeah! ", it's a very good scene. I do have a few complaints though. There were a lot of things in the plot that were never really wrapped up and some things that weren't handled well.
You could blame that on the director though, I think he was a loser. I base that on the fact that there were no shots that impressed me all that much, and how the movie ended (i'm talking about the very end, when he walks down the alley back to work). The movie ended too soon if you ask me and left the storyline about his girlfriend and his mom and sister hanging.
I also think they could have fleshed out his relationship with Brittany Murphy a lot more. It didn't even seem like they were together, or even hooked up at any time except for their one sex scene.
I don't know if it was supposed to be like that or what, but if so then I don't know why he would be so mad when he caught the black dude with her... All in all, it could have been better, but I like it how it is anyway, mostly because of the final free style scene.
