Mixed News Sadly, nothing about my job situation has been figured out for sure yet. And it makes me nervous, because 2-weeks' notice for the end of the year is Wednesday or Thursday of this week. And I'm stressing about what I'm going to say to the people here, and how it's going to be received. But I did get some rather exciting news this morning . . . I'm not supposed to know, but apparently the GM at the old job has instructed my old supervisor to "pay her whatever it takes" to get me back. That's more like it. I feel kinda spoiled, actually. I don't want to get cocky, because I know what happens to people when they get that kind of attitude. I don't want to be greedy, but it needs to be worth my while to be leaving a pretty good job after only 7 months.
The mixed news? There's talk of keeping the new guy as well. First of all, that poses all sorts of problems - #1, there's a serious lack of office space as it is (with only 1 extra person, let alone 2). #2, they'd have to buy another computer, as well as licenses for the software, which is NOT cheap. #3, neither me nor my friend currently in the position can stand him. That sounds really bad, but he's very frustrating to work with. I just don't see how it makes any business sense to keep him around when he's only adding to the workload, and it's already been a month or so since he started. My friend was already working alone after only a week of training. And on another note, I don't see why he's doing this kind of work when he's technically qualified to do an engineer's job. I just think it would be better for all if he was doing work he'd be good at, instead of struggling (and causing much frustration) with something he isn't. Is that wrong of me? I just don't think I'd be anywhere near as excited about this change if it means he's still going to be around.
Especially given the nature of the work - sure, it's busy right now, but when I left 7 months ago, we'd all literally been sitting around for 3 weeks. And for most of the time I was there, the work was just enough to keep one person steadily busy. OK, I'll let go of that one for now before I start a rant. =) So - I'm hoping this finally happens this afternoon! I've had to lie and say I have a doctor's appointment, so I'm leaving work at 3:30pm. I hate lying.
It always seems to catch up with me somehow. And now a co-worker (and friend) is possibly leaving as well. I didn't really feel guilty about handing in my notice, because I don't feel like I really contribute much in the first place. But now that she's possibly leaving as well .
. .
man, THAT gap would certainly be felt. Guilty, guilty, guilty. Must be the Catholic upbringing. =) And I am SO unreasonably curious to find out what on earth this much-gossiped about bonus is going to be. Supposedly this afternoon. Hope I don't miss it by leaving early. Wow, I really hate waiting.
