What Goes Around, Comes Around So all I can think of is that I must have been Hitler or something in a past life. Cuz I don't know what I've done to deserve this. Yes, I need to rant, and rant something horrible.
But I'm at work, so this is about the best I can do. Two weeks ago, on my last day of work at the old job, the painter was FINALLY supposed to show up to do touchups around the house - after standing me up before Christmas. I was not a happy camper to begin with. He was sitting in his truck in front of my house when I pulled up. As I approached, he pulled forward - so, of course, I pulled in behind him to park in front of my house.
I was just parking when his reverse lights went on and he plowed straight into my car. Pretty darn cut and dried - he hit my car. I was stationary. He got out, and said "Sorry about your car. You must have snuck up on me there. " I didn't say a word. I was livid. I checked out my car, and it wasn't too bad, but the bra was cracked, as well as the front bumper and grill.
He was driving an '84 GMC pickup - there wasn't even any paint transfer. I still hadn't said anything by the time we got in the house, and it only made me madder that he reeked of smoke and he was making the house smell bad. I said I'd get his insurance information after he'd done with the painting, and showed him all the spots around the house. After going out to his truck for his tools, he said I might as well take it down while he was working to save time.
Of course, first thing I do when he's out of earshot is frantically call BF. I'm absolutely horrible at dealing with situations like this, and after nearly being screwed one too many times, I wanted to make sure I didn't get shafted because I was too nice. My car was the only one with any damage, and it wasn't even my fault, so I was the only one with something to lose. BF said to make sure I got his insurance info (duh - but sometimes my brain goes numb), to go file a police report as soon as he was gone, and to even go down to the builder's showhomes down the street just to make sure they knew about it.
I got his insurance info, and called them as soon as he was gone. I called the police to find out which district I was in, but they don't like to have reports filed for less than $1000 damage. So I just talked to a constable about who would likely be found at fault. She was really nice to me, but gave me the truth - if he was reversing, he was at fault. But because there were no witnesses, it was his word against mine as far as insurance was concerned, and if he decided to lie and say he wasn't moving, it might end up being a 50-50 case. I got pictures of my car and couldn't do much else, seeing as it was the weekend. On Monday, my car was booked in for an oil change anyways, so I had them do an estimate at the same time.
$922 worth of damage, and it's barely visible. But not quite $1000, so I didn't think I'd get a warm reception if I tried to file a police report, just so my version was down on paper. I called my insurance company just to make a record of it, and she gave me a more positive outlook - well, he's at fault because he was backing up at the time. So I felt a little better. Let it go a week without hearing anything before I started to get concerned and called his insurance rep back. She said that he hadn't given them a statement yet, but the version he gave to his broker suggested he didn't think he was at fault.
That I could call my insurance company and have them deal with it, or wait until he gave them a statement. Then yesterday, I got home to find a message from this same lady. He claims it wasn't his fault, so there wasn't anything more she could do. Call my own insurance rep and have them deal with it. I called her back today, absolutely livid, to find out exactly what he was saying.
He is now claiming that I ran into his car!! That I just pulled up in too much of a hurry and hit the back of his truck. I was dumbfounded. She said again that there was nothing more she could do, and to have my insurance company deal with it. Well, why should I have to file a claim and take a hit on my insurance just because he's a fuckin dumbass and a liar to boot?
I don't think so. So I called his work. I wasn't really sure what I was going to say, but figured I'd at least get his phone number. I had to try really hard not to be bitchy, because I'd dealt with the receptionist/dispatcher before, and I knew this wasn't her problem nor did it involve her. I asked to have his number because I didn't get any contact information when the accident happened. She was apologetic, but said she'd been specifically instructed not to give out any information. I couldn't let it go at that. I let her know that I was extremely upset, because he was now lying about the accident and I wanted to be able to speak with him directly. I asked if I could speak to his boss instead, and now I'm just waiting for a phone call. Do I have an invisible sign on my car that says "Hit me, then take advantage of the situation"??
Cuz I'm sure starting to wonder. When it was the Dodge, I figured maybe it was just that particular car. But now I'm having the same luck with a brand new car, so I can only wonder if it's something to do with me. I want to beat up that fat, dumbass old man of a painter for being a liar and making my life difficult. I suppose it could be worse .
. .
someone could have smashed up my car while I wasn't around, and I wouldn't even have anyone to blame. But it still burns my noodle that there are such dishonest people out there.
Don't mess with me, mean people, because I'm quickly learning from BF how to cause a stink when you've done me wrong.
