(on the hottest day in March) It's very hot. And there's no cover because, this being San Diego, there are no actual trees. Just sage and tumbleweed and even a cactusy-looking thing or two. But nothing taller than me, except other hikers. And it would seem they don't like being used for shade. Spoilsports. Regardless of the heat, and my absolutely disastrous idea that running part way was a good move, I made it all the way up the mountain (1.5 miles, approx. 1,500 feet) and ran out of water. The walk back down was definitely easier, but by the time I reached the bottom I was seriously contemplating strangling the girls in front of me who had used their abundance of H2O to have a water fight . I know they had no reason to think I was a tad thirsty, but boy were they close to being emaciated corpses discovered by some other hiker, weeks from now ("It looks like they were beaten to death with their own REI water bottles...").
Anywho, that's my Sunday, still in progress. It's only 2pm in the afternoon but since I have to wait for my body to reboot, I won't be doing much else until later. Got a nice burn going, though! First sunburn of the season! Now we'll see if I can morph it into a tan...
