I finally got some not-crappy work done on my Comment this weekend (and today. okay mostly today) and I'm in good shape to dive into the not-at-all lovely world of Public Interest report writing. From what I hear it's an experience much like sitting down on hot needles, and although I've never done that I can imagine.
The weekend was fun, finally saw some folks I'd been meaning to see for a week now, but otherwise I sat around and pretended to work on papers while at the same time doing the Post crossword puzzle and reading urlLink the Onion . Oh, and the football... I thought it was supremely hilarious that the wretched Lions and the possibly-even-more-wretched Cardinals played the biggest spoilers of the weekend in NFL action. And as much as I love the Lions (I'm a masochist), I have to hand it to the Cardinals for not only beating a playoff-bound team, but knocking them out of the playoffs in the process. I've never liked the Vikings (Randy Moss is a prick and they're division rivals of the Lions) so watching them lose to the Cardinals of all people was pure bliss. For their own part (if you haven't heard) the Lions smacked the 12-4 Rams around like they were a junior high intramural squad and won, 30-20, thus denying the Rams home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
That's not nearly as exciting as denying them the playoffs outright, but I still enjoyed it. And I say "boo! " to all those who snidely point out that in winning games to finish a losing season, the Lions (and Chargers and Cardinals) are simply wrecking their position in the draft. Technically, yes they are, but a win to finish off the year is so much more important than the position in the draft, for morale reasons.
My 2 cents and all. Anyone interested in my opinion about Tech's spectacularly awful performance on the 26th can just read the comments below. I'm glad I'm a few years out of school or else I might have had a complete mental breakdown during the game.
