In response to urlLink Maureen Dowd's most recent OP-ED piece: 1) Wile E Coyote WAS NOT a "distracted doggie. " i would say he was a) rather focused on one thing, and b)quite ingenious. -- could someone with AADD build an acme catapult that defies the laws of physics to flip completely over rather than launch the thing it was supposed to? but lets get to the nitty gritty of her op-ed: "I find my mind wandering from tasks that are uninteresting or difficult. " (Like nation building, which we said we'd never do but are muddling through now, with no coherent strategy, in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Middle East, and soon in Liberia. ) " --No question we've been underplaying the state building, but can you blame W? his biggest supporters, the far right, are habitual isolationists, worried that we'll get involved with statescrafting in far away lands. Look, we said that we were there to stop the dictator, we did that. If we were building a fair and free democratic state, all you party-line dems would be whining, "look how we're imposing our values on them, weh weh" "I say things without thinking and later regret having said them.
" (Such as declaring we have "prevailed" in Iraq two months before the commander there admits, "We're still at war. " Or bubbling about the statue of Saddam falling and then months later posting a $25 million bounty on the real Saddam's head. Or saying Saddam had W.M.D. 's that posed an imminent threat to us and then failing to find a single warhead. Or saying we'd already found the weapons when all we'd found was some trashed trailer. Or saying we'd get Osama "dead or alive" and Al Qaeda was "on the run.
") " -- Did I hear you right, Maureen, we haven't prevailed in Iraq? what? are you kidding me? yes, there's some residual resistance, but that's always ALWAYS the case. Did you know that every few years some whitehaired japanese guy stumbles out of some south pacific island and says, "ok, World War Two is over for me now, i give up. " WWII-- and that was over 50 years ago. just because some small pockets of resistence still go on fighting, doesn't mean the regime is crumbled-- which, i might add, was our primary mission in iraq.
I've already posted enough on WoMDs (which i still think they had) as for Al Qaeda, they're definately on the ropes right now, and while they may not be quite TKOed, they've still woken the sleeping tiger. "I make quick decisions without thinking enough about their possible bad results. " (Such as how our troops will be targets in hostile, dangerous territory, stuck there for years sorting out tribal and sectarian warfare. ) " Years, really? Seems to me that we could hand the whole state building over to the UN like we said we were going to, and like the UN wants, and problem solved.
"I have a quick temper, a short fuse. " (Like the president, taunting the Iraqi militants, saying, "Bring 'em on. " Shouldn't that sort of trash talking be reserved for football and Schwarzenegger sequels? " I see, so these people who have already declared Jihad on us are going to say, "oooo i didn't mind them so much before, but he said bring it on, so i hate those pesky americans now.
" when dealing with terrorists, perception is key, a bit of bravado can go a long way. "I have trouble planning in what order to do a series of tasks or activities. " (Such as threatening to rumble with North Korea and Iran while we're still prone to stumble in Afghanistan and Iraq. ) For god's sake Maureen, the North Koreans aren't going to call a time out because we're involved in Iraq. "In group activities it is hard for me to wait my turn. " (Why wait for the pansy allies, even if you'll need their help after? ) " Why should we wait for our pansy allies? wasn't it our quick response to 9/11 that prevented the Taliban from entrenching and preparing for the onslaught?
or our "shock and Awe" campaign that made more than 1/2 the Iraqi regular army surrender? why wait on froggys when you can be a hawk all by yourself (well, maybe a little help from the brits) "I usually work on more than one project at a time, and fail to finish many of them. " (Yes. Al Qaeda is recrudescing. In Afghanistan, the Taliban is coming back, warlords rule and the vice and virtue police are at it again.
Iran and North Korea are defying us. Saddam is still lurking, even as we struggle in Iraq to get the lights on, the oil industry up and the violence down. We say everything is O.K. while the senators who went to Iraq last week say we're stretched thin in the face of more and more attacks by Saddam loyalists. " yup, the world's still a dangerous place. does that mean we're doing the wrong thing? "Yep. These guys definitely have E.A.D.D. Empire Attention Deficit Disorder. " maybe you're just an idiot, Maureen Dowd look, i don't like W any more than you do, but let's critize him for the things he's doing WRONG. oh, and as far as Sass goes, you're still a rank amature.
