As most people know, I currently work at a liquor distributorship in New Orleans. My position, which will end this Friday, was charged with creating a database of wine lists from all the local area restaurants. Let me say, there are some pretty entertaining wine brands out there. Tell me, would anyone like a glass of Fat Bastard Chardonnay. Perhaps a little wine from Domaine de Vieux Telegraphe (Yes, that does translate to Land of the Old Telegraph).
The best is Toasted Head... mmmm.. Combined with the entertainment of French wine chateaus, is the taste testing. Yes, I did say taste testing. So sitting at work doing shots of new liquor, I decided it would only be fair to report what's good (and not so good) on the market today. Coming soon, we have Amaretto and Coffee flavored tequila. The coffee tequila is VERY, VERY good, definitely a suggested buy. It tastes like good espresso or cappucinno with a little kick. Don't bother with the Amaretto flavored tequila... it tastes like tequila, plain and simple, so those who prefer amaretto sours and amaretto and pineapples won't like it at all. Already on the market is the Bacardi flavored rums -- Coco (coconut), Razz (raspberry), Vanila (Vanilla), O (orange) and Limon (lemon). Yummy! Try Bacardi Razz with sprite for a nice alcoholic spritzer kind effect. Very refreshing and easy to drink.
Razz lemonade is also a good choice (Bacardi Razz, Sour Mix and Sprite). Most of these make pretty good flavored martinis as well. The 750ml bottle is between $11 and $17 dollars. Also a good try, if you can afford the $20 - $30 price tag, is Hypnotiq. A good mixture of upscale liquors and fruit juices, drink it straight over ice. It name delivers because this is a VERY relaxing drink.
In other venues, Kahlua has a new higher proof liquor out. Same Kaluha, just 70 proof instead of 40, so no big deal there. DO NOT try Skyy Citrus, tastes like really nasty cough syrup. It may be passable in cranberry juice, but I strongly doubt. We went to Home Depot to get the grill yesterday. We were lied to! i was told Sunday that they 1) had them in stock and 2) could hold them until we got there Monday evening. So when we arrived, we were told they were sold that morning (we were also told they were sold a week ago) and that the employee should not have told us that.
Okay, great. Well, we still got a grill. We ended up with a better, more expensive gas only model at a discount because of our "problems". This model is bigger and stronger, with a side burner for cooking up the beans (or what have you), while cooking the meat. We need to get the electric rotisserie for cooking the whole chicken or turkey. Yum. Until then....
