I am pleased to see that Louisiana was actually not listed last on a list... finally. The report: quality of hospitals. The ranking: 28 out of 51. (Yes, I can count. This study includes the District of Columbia) Not bad, I say. My info comes from an article on urlLink MSN . Once again, we in Louisiana can rejoice at being ahead of our neighbors in something: Texas was 30th; Arkansas, Alabama, and Mississippi were ranked 49,50, and 51 respectively. The study says that 49% more people will die from a heart attack in Mississippi then in #6 ranked Colorado! So be forewarned, if you plan to have a heart attack or emergency surgery, don't be in Mississippi!! ;-) All joking aside, healthcare has been a topic of debate in the state's elections as well. Mainly, what to do with the ailing charity hospital system our state has. Should we get rid of this system, in favor of dividing funds amongst other thriving community hospitals and educational/research hospitals (like LSU Med School)? What do you think?
